Baihetan Hydropower Station on Jinsha River Were Officially Connected To The Grid for Power Generation
Before the party's centennial, on June 28, the first batch of units of Baihetan Hydropower Station on Jinsha River, an important part of the country, were officially connected to the grid. As a national major project and a national strategic clean energy project for the implementation of "west to East power transmission", Baihetan Hydropower Station will send a continuous stream of clean energy to the eastern region in the future.
Baihetan Hydropower Station is the largest and most difficult hydropower project under construction in the world. It is located on the Jinsha River between Ningnan County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province and Qiaojia county, Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province. The total installed capacity of the power station is 16 million kilowatts, which is composed of 16 million kilowatt hydro generating units. The average annual power generation capacity can reach 62.443 billion kilowatt hours, and the total installed capacity is second only to the Three Gorges hydropower station. It is worth mentioning that the world's largest single unit capacity of 1 million kilowatts of water turbine generator units has achieved a major breakthrough in China's high-end equipment manufacturing.
The dam crest elevation of Baihetan Hydropower Station is 834 meters (altitude), the normal water level is 825 meters (altitude), and the maximum dam height is 289 meters. It is a 300 meter high arch dam. The total investment of the project is more than 170 billion yuan, and the total construction period is 144 months. It is expected to be fully completed and put into operation in 2023. By then, the Three Gorges, Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba and other hydropower stations will form the world's largest clean energy corridor.
After the completion and operation of Baihetan Hydropower Station, about 28 million tons of standard coal, 65 million tons of carbon dioxide, 600000 tons of sulfur dioxide and 430000 tons of nitrogen oxides can be saved every year. At the same time, it can effectively improve China's energy structure, help China achieve the goal of "3060" of carbon peak and carbon neutralization, and play an irreplaceable role.
Baihetan Hydropower Station is mainly for power generation and also for flood control and navigation. It can be jointly operated with Xiluodu Reservoir to undertake the flood control task of Chuanjiang River reach and improve the flood control standard of Yibin, Luzhou, Chongqing and other cities along the Chuanjiang River reach. At the same time, we should cooperate with the joint operation of the Three Gorges reservoir, undertake the flood control task of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and reduce the flood diversion loss of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. In dry season, the discharge of downstream reach can be increased and the navigation condition of downstream channel can be improved.
